How to Remove a Virus from Your Computer

The first thing you should do is unplug.

Take your machine off the internet. This might mean that you have to disable or remove your wireless access. For some, it means you might have unplug your internet cable. If your computer is a zombie spewing forth viruses and infecting people, we need to get you off the air.

The next next thing to do is to run your anti-virus software. After it's done running, remove all the viruses the software detects. Then run the software again and remove any other viruses it detects. "Rinse and repeat" as they say. In other words, keep this process going until either there are no more viruses or until your virus software does not seem to be able to get rid of the remaining viruses.

As in anything, there can be complications. If you share the computer with someone, sooner or later your anti-virus software will call one of their favorite programs a virus bearer. You need to hash that out with the other concerned party. There may be times when you keep something your anti-virus software says is a virus because you "know" it's not a virus....

There are a even more considerations.

Remember when we came across a virus that the software could detect but not eradicate?

Also, how do you know for sure that your anti-virus got everything?

Well, that's the advanced course. See one of the links below:
